چکیده

In this paper, we use simulation to evaluate the performance of a regulated internetworking packet switching system under various values of double priority offered load. The switch system under study uses buffers which have two regulators. One of them is called the Low Regulator and the other the High Regulator. The two regulators divide the queue into three segments in which different policies are applied. By handling the queue’s two regulators we achieve traffic dynamic tuning in a backbone network by making a differentiated service. The results of this study can be used by network designers to configure their backbone networks optimally. Key-Words: performance evaluation, backbone networks, internetworking, switching system, priority, regulate traffic, operation of queue

Load Sharing Replicated Buffered Banyan Networks With Priority Traffic

In this paper we investigate further the performance of a fault tolerant load sharing replicated buffered banyan network switch design. We look at the effect increasing the Switch Element (SE) degree has on the performance of the system and propose a simple modification to the system to transmit priority traffic. These results highlight the excellent performance and flexibility that these load ...

Performance Study of Multilayered Multistage Interconnection Networks under Hotspot Traffic Conditions

The performance of Multistage Interconnection Networks (MINs) under hotspot traffic, where some percentage of the traffic is targeted at single nodes, which are also called hot spots, is of crucial interest. The prioritizing of packets has already been proposed at previous works as alleviation to the tree saturation problem, leading to a scheme that natively supports 2-class priority traffic. I...

Performance of Scalable-Distributed-Arbitration ATM Switch Supporting Multiple QoS Classes

A multi-QoS scalable-distributed-arbitration (MSDA) ATM switch is described that supports both highand low-priority traffic under the head-of-line-priority discipline. It uses crosspoint and transit buffers, each consisting of a highand low-priority buffer. The buffers arbitrate in a distributed manner the selection of which cellsto transmit. The MSDA switch supports multiple QoS classes while ...

A Resource Management Scheme for Satellite Networks with Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Procedures

Current satellite systems operate according to circuit switching transfer modes. To improve flexibility and efficiency, several kinds of packet switching systems have been proposed. However, it appears that full packet switches are still too complex and expensive to be implemented on board the satellites, in the mid-term. For the time being, a compromise has been found in satellite networks wit...

Pii: S0166-5316(02)00082-2

Priority scheduling for packets is becoming a hot topic, as attempts are being made to integrate voice services in existing data networks. In this paper, we consider a discrete-time queueing system with head-of-line (HOL) non-preemptive priority scheduling. Two classes of traffic will be considered, i.e., high-priority and low-priority traffic, which both generate variablelength packets. We wil...
